A collision involving two vehicles on Highway 101 north of the Nojoqui Summit resulted in three individuals being transported to local hospitals with varying injuries Sunday afternoon. The incident, reported at 12:02 p.m., temporarily closed one lane as emergency crews responded.

According to Santa Barbara County Fire Department officials, the crash involved one vehicle that veered 10-20 feet over the side of the highway.

Vehicle #1, carrying two elderly occupants—a male and a female—sustained minor to moderate injuries. Both individuals were transported by ground ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital ER for treatment.

Vehicle #2 was driven by an adult female, the sole occupant, who suffered minor injuries. She was taken to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital ER via a second ambulance. Fortunately, no extrication was required for any of the individuals involved.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision. It’s currently unknown what factors may have contributed to the accident.

Motorists in the area experienced minor delays due to the temporary lane closure. Authorities ask drivers to remain cautious and attentive when traveling through the region while the investigation continues.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
