A collision involving a vehicle and a commercial truck occurred on Highway 101 Northbound, approximately a quarter-mile north of Highway 1.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department reports the incident took place at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, resulting in the temporary closure of the northbound lane near Lompoc.
The collision led to moderate injuries for the driver of the smaller vehicle, who managed to self-extricate before emergency services arrived. The injured motorist was promptly attended to by paramedics at the scene and then transported by ground ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the commercial truck did not sustain any injuries during the crash. However, the impact caused a diesel leak from the truck, prompting fire crews to take immediate action. They were able to contain and stop the leak, averting potential environmental hazards.
Authorities have not yet released the cause of the collision, stating that it is currently under investigation.
For a short period following the incident, traffic on Highway 101 Northbound experienced delays due to the roadway being shut down. The road was later reopened after accident investigators and cleanup crews finished their assessments and clearing operations.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department has not provided further details on the condition of the injured driver.
