This morning my son sent me a photo from Hole #5 on Muni of a coyote on the course.

Coyote on Municipal Golf Course

I live right around here, and a very similar-looking coyote ran through my back yard just a few weeks ago. Looked very thin, and we have a lot of cats in our neighborhood. This is why our cat stays inside!

1947-1948 we lived on Las Positas Road across from where the golf course is now. it was just a huge empty field. (I believe SB's first airfield was there). I used to fly kites there and had to be careful not to trip on the hundreds of gopher holes. Samarkand was just being developed and my parents purchased a couple of empty lots, where my father grew corn, strawberries, etc. Gophers were his nemesis as they would eat the roots of the plants and kill them. He would wait for them to stick their heads out of the holes and finish them off with a shovel. I've always thought that the street name "Las Positas" referred to all the gopher holes there!

A friend lives near the golf course and she said coyotes seemed to live in the neighborhood, jumping six-foot fences and chasing/killing cats. As we in other neighborhoods know, they are everywhere and after our animals.
