Cox Communications and local officials break ground on new building development (courtesy photos)

Santa Barbara County and City of Goleta officials joined Cox Communications’ representatives for a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday.
Cox Communications is celebrating the start of new construction of a Critical Telecommunications Facility and Santa Barbara headquarters renovation at 22 S. Fairview Ave in Goleta.
The technology company states it will enable them to bring the latest product and services, including next-generation Gigabit internet speeds, from Carpinteria to Goleta.
The event included a brief program hosted by Cox and included City of Goleta officials who provided an overview of the construction project and the gigabit buildout plans.
Construction will begin this month with an estimated completion date of March 2021. Two buildings will be removed to construct the new standalone Critical Telecommunications Facility which will have an increase equipment capacity of nearly 1,300 sq. ft. to support network upgrades in the region.
When completed, the Santa Barbara headquarters will include enhanced workspaces, a new state-of-the-art warehouse, multi-purpose training room, and a modernized lab and equipment provisioning space. The campus will also receive a new parking lot, landscape, screening gate, and extension of masonry walls. The entire campus will be approximately 34,000 sq. ft.
In 2018, Cox committed to investing $10 billion over the course of five years in its network nationwide. The investment is said to enhance customers’ experience both inside and outside of the home and office, which will also power businesses and economic development in the area.
We were going to dump Cox and start our own cable company. After cunching the numbers, we quickly realized that our $250/month Cox bill was quite inexpensive and a remarkable deal.
It’s a quite modest building. Nothing like the Decker’s edifice. Maybe our bills won’t go up that much.
Is my WiFi bill gonna go up again? Gah.
Does this ‘cement’ in the automatic creep up of COX prices?
County and Santa Barbara Executives and Elected Officials need to commit and focus on REDUCING COX regularly increasing fees on its monopoly of cable lines awarded by our local government.. Our Brass don’t care while pulling in salaries of $340,000 plus benefits, but too many of the rest of us find $250/mo COX bills having us eating only beans. Check out neighbor comments on NextDoor.com Stop escalating fees. Locals Hate COX! Council and Sups can require a loyalty programs with discounts. Let’s work towards increased access to cable TV, internet and phone for emergencies; reduce COX’s manipulative monopolistic business practices. .
Don’t need gigabit internet, just reliable quality internet. 150 down and 10 up is MORE than enough for my three person household. What’s needed is quality infrastructure with less latency variation, jitter and packet loss. I suggest anyone who experiences these issues, has verified the issue is not with their network and had cox out multiple times, file an FCC complaint. I’ve had enough with Cox unwillingness to investigate the issue I’m having with their infrastructure.

Cox must miss the tax write off of executives visiting Santa Barbara since ‘down-sizing’ the service staff and closing the Fairview facility. It would be interesting to see if they quietly lease a luxury suite for their occasional use subsequently.
