The Department of Behavioral Wellness is excited to announce the launch of YOR Place Lompoc, a new community resource for youth, in the city of Lompoc.  On Monday, September 27, 2021, the Department of Behavioral Wellness, in collaboration with Family Service Agency, will hold a formal ribbon cutting event at 646 N. H Street in Lompoc from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., to celebrate the opening of a youth drop-in center named YOR Place Lompoc.  The drop-in center supports adolescents, aged 12-24, and their families, in combatting the misuse of opioids and/or stimulants.

“We invite the community to join in the ribbon cutting of YOR Place Lompoc, as we celebrate National Recovery Month and our local collaborations and partnerships.” states John Doyel, Behavioral Wellness Alcohol and Drug Program Division Chief. “YOR Place Lompoc offers a critical array of services for our community youth,” states Doyel.

The vision of YOR Place Lompoc was created in partnership with contracted providers, a dedicated youth advisory group, and community stakeholders.  YOR Place provides youth-driven community outreach, drop-in services, and access to prevention, intervention, treatment, Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT), and recovery services for youth (ages 12-24) who are misusing opioids and/or stimulants.  Services include youth leadership events, education groups, screening and referral to treatment, case management, counseling, peer and parent support groups, HIV testing and education, and additional outreach services.  The drop-in center is funded by a federal grant under the State Opioid Response program, with funding provided by the California department of Health Care Services, which was awarded to the County in February of this year.

The recent opening of YOR Place, and the ribbon cutting event on September 27th, highlights and celebrates National Recovery Month.  Recognized annually in September, Recovery Month is a national observance that reinforces the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective, and, people can and do recover.  This year’s Recovery Month theme supports the overall vision of YOR Place Lompoc, “Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community.”
