Cottage Health is opening its second Cottage Urgent Care Center. This site will open in Oxnard on July 28, with the goal of providing complete care within 45 minutes. Access to care is an important priority in preventing a minor issue from becoming a more serious health concern, and the new Urgent Care Center will provide the community with convenient access from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., 365 days a year.

Located at The Esplanade Shopping Center at 360 W. Esplanade Dr. in Oxnard, the center is the second of 10 Cottage Urgent Care facilities opening to welcome patients in the tri-county region from San Luis Obispo to Camarillo.

Cottage providers will staff the center and include a licensed nurse practitioner, a radiology technician and clinical concierges who are dedicated to providing the highest quality care that distinguishes Cottage Health.

Patients arriving at the Oxnard Cottage Urgent Care will be welcomed with modern and comfortable amenities.

Conditions treated include cold and flu symptoms, scrapes and minor cuts, minor burns, sprains, allergies, earache, urinary infection, skin conditions, rash, poison oak and other minor ailments and injuries. Patients who require attention for more serious medical conditions may be referred to a local Emergency Department or physician.

Available services onsite include X-rays and lab services. The center will also offer physical exams for sports participation. Walk-ins are welcome and online appointments will be available.

VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE EVENT JULY 25

On Saturday, July 25 at noon, Cottage Urgent Care Oxnard will host a Virtual Open House event featuring interviews and a virtual sneak peek tour. Virtual attendees can enter to win a $100 Instacart gift card. Watch the online event at www.cottagehealth.org/urgent-care/.

Additional Cottage Urgent Care centers will be opening this summer and fall, including in Santa Maria on North Broadway.

These services enable Cottage Health to serve the community in new ways and adapt to current and future healthcare needs.

I'm surprised Kaiser allowed that, seeing as Cottage won't allow Kaiser here. I guess our politicians are to blame. Can someone explain it better to me. My employer only offers Kaiser and I have to drive to VC once a year for my physical, which isn't that bad. But it's annoying.

Cox and cable companies are oligopolies, not monopolies. This refers to a state of limited competition usually governed by regulations, agreements with local governments, cost, etc. and therefore entry is cost or time prohibitive keeping number of players small. Cable companies have agreements among themselves to not offer services where another one exists, but they are not monopolies because of Satellite, fiber, and other providers over ISP.

That said, similarly, there's nothing to stop Kaiser from opening in Santa Barbara County but Kaiser is both an insurance and healthcare provider and therefore provider options are restricted to Kaiser facilities and affiliates. Without Kaiser itself building a hospital, they must rely on agreements with third parties for emergency services. If the third party doesn't want to participate there is no reasonable location for patients to go for emergency care in network. In Ventura County, they contract with Memorial in Ventura and have their own hospital in Woodland Hills.

Cottage is not an insurance provider and therefore they can open wherever they want and not have to think about the hospital aspect like Kaiser does.
