The Santa Barbara County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau has released the identity of the body found in the Santa Barbara Harbor on September 3.
The victim is 64-year-old Susan Vaughn from Santa Barbara.
“Cause and manner of death are pending, however this death does not appear suspicious,” said Raquel Zick, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.

A body was found in the Santa Barbara Harbor on Monday afternoon. At approximately 12:43 p.m., a female body was found unresponsive in the water, prompting an urgent response from nearby individuals and emergency services.
The Santa Barbara Police Department (SBPD) reported that a Good Samaritan leapt into the water to attempt a rescue after noticing the body. The individual managed to alert a nearby boat to administer life-saving measures.
Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol and emergency medical teams responded to the vessel. However, the SBPD confirmed the woman was declared deceased before she could be transported to the hospital.
According to police the voluntarily jumped over the railing of Stearns Wharf and into the ocean. The Good Samaritan jumped in after the woman.
The case has now been handed over to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau, which has taken custody of the body. The identification of the woman is pending, with officials stating they are in the process of notifying her next of kin.
