Community Flu Shot Event Attracts Record Attendance

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department along with the Medical Reserve Corps of Santa Barbara County hosted a free flu shot event in the City of Goleta that yielded record community participation. Thanks to the efforts of community partners in spreading the message of yesterday’s event, nearly 800 community members received a flu shot, approximately 300 more vaccines than previously given at this annual event!

“After experiencing a terrible flu season last year, we are excited to report that our community has responded by getting flu shots that will not only protect residents individually but will also protect the most vulnerable members of our community,” shared Public Health Director Van Do-Reynoso. “An important aspect of Public Health is to protect communities from the spread of disease by providing opportunities, like yesterday’s free event, for residents to have access to needed vaccines.” 

The overwhelming success of this event was made possible by both community members and our community partners. A very special thanks to the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics for providing additional vaccine to meet the large turnout of the public for this event. Thanks to our many Medical Reserve Corps volunteers and Public Health Department staff for ensuring a smooth flowing event for the community.
