A combative subject was called in as a Code 40, when the Fire Dept and Medics rushed to the scene they discovered the man was drunk.

Can you explain code 40, compared to a 5150.
Code 40 is a Drunk, 5150 Emotionally unstable subject.
A code 40 is someone who is drunk and not able to care for themselves. A 5150 is a person who is a danger to themselves or the public due to mental illness. A person who is deemed a 5150 can be involuntarily placed in a facility for psychiatric care. A code 40 can be taken to a sobering center and or jail as is appropriate to their behavior/offense.
