At 1:00 pm today (Friday), neighbors heard a car speeding and then a loud crash. A family of five with several seniors was traveling westbound on Alamar when an older Mercedes came speeding down Puesta Del Sol and entered the intersection without stopping at the stop sign.
The man in the Mercedes was seriously injured. Firefighters and paramedics spent many minutes working on him before taking him away in an ambulance. The family of five was shaken but uninjured.

One resident who has lived at the corner for 40 years said people are constantly speeding on Alamar between State and Foothill and pleas for a stop sign to be installed on Alamar, at Puesta Del Sol, which is also a school crossing for Peabody.
They said their pleas have been ignored and added that an elderly female crossing guard was hit at this exact location some years ago.

About once a week for the last couple years I have seen a very loud gold Mercedes that looks nearly identical to this one driving without regard for safety in this area. I regularly see it being driven by a guy who looks to be in his early 20s on Puesta del Sol, Mission Canyon, and Foothill. I would not be surprised if it’s the same person, although I have no solid evidence of it.
Whoever the driver is, hopefully he recovers and develops an appreciation for the importance of driving a little more like how Steve Morris taught so many of us. We all bend the rules while driving but you can only get away with it so many times before you hurt someone. I’m very glad to hear the five people in the other care were not injured.
I invite SBPD officers, SB County Sheriff’s deputies, and CHP to spend an hour on Mission Canyon and Foothill and see how many people are speeding by at 60 – 70mph throughout the day and night, passing over the double yellow line, and just generally driving like nobody else matters.
I know this happened some time ago, but I just read the article. I too, witnessed this kid with loud exhaust on the gold Mercedes wagon driving at high rates of speed on Puesta del Sol. He would
floor it and just fly through a neighborhood with no sidewalks and people walking in the street. It was unbelievable how reckless he was. I saw him fishtailing as he turned onto APS and onto Alamar. In fact, I never saw him that he was not driving recklessly. It got so bad that I figured out where he lived and paid a visit to his parents. They were polite enough and even said someone else had complained to them and the authorities. The father said their son wasn”t really driving that fast, it just seemed that way because of the loud exhaust. I assured him it was not just the loud exhaust. They said they couldn’t take his car away because he needed it to drive to work. They were fortunate that he was the only one injured. They need to take responsibility and not let their son have an automobile or driver’s license for a very, very long time.
