Coin-Op Water Dispensers Disappeared?
By an edhat reader
We are wondering if any readers are also equally as bummed that the coin opp water dispensers have disappeared from Albertsons near Costco, and where the nearest ones are now?

May 14, 2018 10:53 AMThey were still at the Albertsons on Calle Real a couple weeks ago. The Albertsons near Costco is getting remolded and I also noticed Red Box and the ATMs are also missing. Perhaps its just temporary.

May 14, 2018 03:45 PMJust a reminder: Our tap water is perfectly drinkable, delicious, and a great way to save the environment from the billions of single-use plastic bottles we burn through every year.

May 14, 2018 03:52 PMOur tap water is anything but delicious.
Refilling gallon jugs or 5 gallon jugs from a water dispenser is a fine way to avoid single use plastic bottles, as well as using a Brita-type water filter or reverse-osmosis system (neither of which is perfect, as they still generate some waste).
Although a friend of mine did an experiment in college where the group took samples from multiple water dispensers around town and measured the bacteria levels. Yuck.

May 15, 2018 08:58 AMI'm sorry natureboy but regardless of your reasons for LIKING our tap water it's still undrinkable. Thank god for my 3 gal jug I refill once a week at the Water Store for $1.50, almost as much as a single use bottle 1/20th the size.

May 15, 2018 09:04 AMOP, are you familiar with the WATER STORE? They do have outdoor dispensers in case you need to fill up when they're closed. (94 Lopez Rd, Goleta)

May 15, 2018 09:16 AMDo you have to fire up your internal combustion engine to fetch this clean water? Or is it in easy walking or biking distance for all customers.

May 15, 2018 09:58 AMWe have found that the change in ownership of the dispensers in the Goleta area (along with the increase in price) has been problematic. The biggest issue is the increased sensitivity of the bill acceptance slot. Almost impossible to get a $1 bill into the thing. My belief is that some of the locations are still operated by a different vendor which are less irksome to use.
