Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Person Near Cayucos

The Coast Guard suspended search efforts for a missing man north of Morro Bay in the vicinity of Cayucos Sunday.

The Coast Guard searched approximately 40 square nautical miles before suspending search efforts pending further developments.

Missing is Rene Monterrosa, a 67-year-old man reportedly wearing blue jeans and a blue jacket.

At approximately 1:18 p.m., an acquaintance of Monterrosa notified Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders that Monterrosa had fallen out of his kayak and into the water. Watchstanders dispatched a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Morro Bay and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Forward Operating Base Mugu.

  • Morro Bay Harbor Patrol

All boaters are strongly urged to wear life jackets while at sea as it may save your life during an unforeseen emergency.
