Coast Guard Rescues Disabled Vessel Near Santa Cruz Island

Source: U.S. Coast Guard

A few minutes shy of 0000 (1200 am) US Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor received a call. A 42′ sailing vessel was disabled near Fraser Point, Santa Cruz Island. The ready crew rose from their racks, grabbed their gear and launched.

The crew consisted of BM1 Dawson, BM2 Bjorklund, MK2 Salzmann, and SN Gray. Once they made it to the vessels location two members were transferred over to the vessel to properly rig tow. Once completed the crew prepared for the long and arduous journey to Santa Barbara, CA.

Due to immense fatigue the crew was relieved around 0545 by another crew from our Station consisting of our Officer in Charge BMCS Wyman, BM3 Torres, SN Kuney and SN Mann. BM1 Dawson also remained onboard to act as the Boarding Officer.

This case ended with 5 violations and a terminated vessel.
