Along our coast Tuesday we saw two great blue herons flying the Salt Marsh near where debris lined the creek. Miramar construction racing toward completion after years of inaction. The drought-starved Bird Refuge is a serene blue. Out at the Gaviota oil refinery there's some sort of big dig (remediation where the storage tanks were?). We even saw three gray whales, including this one that posed for a snap to cap it all.

Me too on the thanks. If not for you ... ;-) (does the song come to mind?) I would know little of what's going on at these places.

Lovely photos, so clear an overview of varied places. And the whale is a treat! Thanks.

Lovely photos, so clear an overview of varied places. We can learn so much about what's happening from seeing above. And the whale is a treat! Thanks.

the refinery is shutting down and giving the property to the State which will become an extension of Gaviota State Beach/Park. Probably more camp sites

Thank you, John. Beautiful photos. Interesting to see the little heart shaped island in the Bird Refuge.

What's up at Gaviota refinery - anyone know the story? I'm also curious if the whale is a pregnant female, because it was moving very slowly and we saw a mother & calf nearby also going West (North). We were amazed by the large number of logs in the Salt Marsh, and I like the squiggle in the mud by the flying heron. It's great to see the Bird Refuge islets more secure for Spring nesting, and the middle one heart shaped again.
