Closer to Home

By John Wiley

Last weekend we noticed this “forgotten” zoo at Hearst Ranch and felt glad the animals don’t seem to be confined there anymore. Flying closer to home we saw aquaculture in southern Morro Bay and thought of it as ranching without land. The view across the Northern part of VAFB out to the point looked like a painting. Regan’s rural getaway atop the mountain was green around the red-roofed “white” house. Tinges of mustard grass yellow mingled with all the other hues around the reservoir and agri/aquaculture at Dos Pueblos Ranch.

  1. Thank you John, for more delightful photos. My mother went to the Hearst Ranch with a beau who was called up to fix the elevator (about 1931). She saw many of the zoo animals running free in pastures.
