Clean Power Alliance Discussion

By an edhat reader

There is new hope that Santa Barbara will be able to offer residents cleaner power at a lower cost. Councilmembers Jason Dominguez and Kristen Sneddon have Agendized a discussion on the Clean Power Alliance (CPA) with the hope that the City of Santa Barbara will join the alliance. CPA is a new regional electricity provider that offers Cities and Counties the ability to join together to provide cleaner and cheaper power to residents.

If the City decides to join CPA it would break the monopoly Southern California Edison has in the City and offer ratepayers a second choice in who they purchase power from. (A powerpoint on CPA can be found at: http://bit.ly/2FaMeZ0.) To date over two dozen Cities and Counties have joined CPA including: Oxnard, Ventura, Ojai, Camarillo, Calabasas, Simi Valley, Moorpark, and Los Angeles County. If you are interested in urging our City Council to join the CPA send a email to the City Council at: SBCityCouncil@santabarbaraca.gov.
