City of Goleta to Implement Vaccine or Testing Requirement for its Employees

Source: City of Goleta

As the highly contagious COVID-19 Delta variant continues to spread throughout Santa Barbara County and the world, the City of Goleta is implementing a vaccine or testing requirement for all City employees. The goal is to protect the health and safety of the City of Goleta workplaces and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Employees will either need to provide proof of vaccination or provide a negative COVID test result weekly. The details of the program are being finalized and will likely reflect similar policies developed by other local employers.

The City urges the community to get vaccinated. If you are already vaccinated, please encourage your friends and family to get the vaccine as well. Only 62.4% of eligible Santa Barbara County residents are fully vaccinated. Everyone 12+ years of age is eligible  For more information, please visit the Santa Barbara County Community Data Dashboard.

Mayor Paula Perotte is asking everyone to help stop the spread of this virus and the appearance of even more deadly variants. She said, “It is vital that every eligible person get vaccinated as soon as possible. By getting vaccinated now, we can protect our most vulnerable community members who are still unable to get vaccinated due to age or health issues. And the sooner we beat this pandemic, the sooner we can get our families and businesses moving forward.”

Hear directly from Mayor Paula Perotte and all of the Goleta City Council members on the importance of getting vaccinated with our #VaccinateGoleta video message available in English and Spanish.

  1. SBGA–are you being willfully stupid or just actually stupid? 70% of adult US has some vaccination but the children have almost none. They and those who can’t take the vaccine are at risk for fools who want to expose themselves and then others. Read the Preamble to the Constitution: We created a nation to provide for the “common welfare” and it is expected that all true patriots will cooperate to do this.

  2. RHS – from the kids perspective, is there a difference if the teacher is vaccinated or not…? Arent studies showing a similar viral load between vaccinated and unvaccinated? Certainly the outcome for the elder vaccinated vs unvaccinated is different… but from the unvaccinated kids perspective, what’s the difference?

  3. The vaccines, in fact, are not as effective as they advertise. Public Health England released a new report this past Friday (Technical Briefing 20). Here are just a few conclusions from the data in Table 5, on page 18-19.
    1) 742 total deaths from the delta variant, and 300,010 total cases of delta.
    2) 402 of the deaths were fully vaccinated—54.2% of the deaths. The mortality rate is 0.14%
    3) 253 of the deaths were unvaccinated—34.1% of the deaths. The mortality rate is 0.08%.
    Which group is doing better???

  4. The vaccines are, in fact doing quite well, despite the FUDdy distortions from people who misuse the PHE data.

    And, as they prominently state:
“The specialist technical briefings contain early data and analysis on emerging variants and findings have a high level of uncertainty.”
“Note case fatality rates are not comparable across variants”
“Hospitalisation data are subject to reporting delays as hospitals typically submit data once a month, although some may provide daily updates. The data show only cases who have been hospitalised and not those who are currently in hospital with COVID-19. As such, it is not appropriate for use for surveillance of those currently hospitalised with COVID-19. In addition, the data will not show cases who were directly admitted as inpatients without presenting to emergency care.”

  5. >>>”The specialist technical briefings contain early data and analysis on emerging variants and findings have a high level of uncertainty.”
At over 95% of the cases, the delta variant is no longer considered an emerging variant.
    >>>”Note case fatality rates are not comparable across variants”
The fatality rates posted are not “across variants”—they’re exclusively for delta.
    >>>”Hospitalisation data are subject to reporting delays as hospitals typically submit data once a month, although some may provide daily updates. The data show only cases who have been hospitalised and not those who are currently in hospital with COVID-19. As such, it is not appropriate for use for surveillance of those currently hospitalised with COVID-19. In addition, the data will not show cases who were directly admitted as inpatients without presenting to emergency care.”
Nothing was posted regarding hospitalization data. These are deaths.

  6. – July 27, CDC director Rochelle Walensky defended her agency against criticism that it was no longer providing enough public information about breakthrough infections. She said the CDC would continually release data from “cohort studies” on “tens of the thousands” of people who have been infected after being vaccinated.
“Tens of thousands “ and the cdc decided to stop tracking breakthroughs. Really? Doesn’t sound very scientific. Or are they worried the vaccines aren’t as effective as they advertise?

  7. Why are people being coerced to take a vaccine?
Over 70% of SB & US have had at least one shot providing 70% of the population with 80% “immunity”.
Unless if course were discussing Delta breakthroughs who are as infectious as non vaccinated people.
Seems ALL people should be tested weekly, not just ones group given the vaccine is not guaranteed against Delta.
Just 4 months ago they are afraid of the B.1.1.7 variant that was first identified in the United Kingdom and was the dominant strain in the United States.
Just test everyone not certain segments.

  8. Vaccine ignorance and superstition is the norm. No not in the year 1350, in 2021. For starters, the point to vaccinating basically everyone is not just to protect the vaccinees but to prevent the viral population from mutating. The only way to do that is to remove the reservoirs of replicating virus. Due to antivax propaganda and collosal idiots who promote it and spread fear and trash hard working public servants at NIAID, the pandemic will continue and there is a significant probability that more virulent strains will appear. Mark my words. Protect your self we are in for a real **** show.

  9. The AFP factcheck link at 6:38 succinctly describes the misuse of the PHE data and flawed statistical analysis that has become a hallmark of our amateur epidemiologist’s comments. It’s deliberate fearmongering as opposed to clueless miscalculation. Complete Statistical Failure.
