The Buellton Area CHP Office wants to remind drivers to slow down and prepare for forecasted heavy rain passing through the area beginning the week of January 13, 2019.

We want to remind drivers many crashes result from driving too fast in wet weather, so the first and foremost tip is: Slow Down. It's a simple matter of physics that your vehicle can't stop as fast or turn accurately on wet or icy pavement. In fog, reduced speed is equally important because vision is impaired.

It is highly recommended to prepare for potential inclement weather by leaving early and allowing plenty of time to get where you're going. Make sure your gas tank is full and check to see that your windshield wipers are in good condition. Don't forget the law requires you to have your headlights on anytime the windshield wipers are operating continuously.

Always leave ample distance between your vehicle and the one ahead as it takes longer to stop on a wet roadway.
