Around 5:00 a.m. on July 5, two California Highway Patrol officers in San Luis Obispo County came to the aid of a severely injured hawk on Highway 101, south of Grand Avenue in Arroyo Grande.
Officers Villars and Barajas spotted the distressed bird in the center divide and quickly acted to rescue it. The injured hawk was transported to the CHP-SLO office, where the officers cared for the animal until a representative from Pacific Wildlife arrived to take custody and provide further treatment.

The hawk is now in the care of Pacific Wildlife’s rehabilitation team, who will evaluate its condition and determine the next steps for recovery.

Thank you, officers!
Red-shouldered hawk. Sure hope this little guy will recover fully and be returned to the wild.
