California Highway Patrol (CHP) ticketed a driver traveling 109 mph on Highway 101 in Carpinteria this week and issued yet another warning to motorists.

Late Wednesday night, CHP states they stopped a driver in a sedan that was speeding and making unsafe lane changes.

The officer pulled over the driver that was heading southbound near Padaro Lane and issued a ticket for violating California Vehicle Code (VC) 22348(b), prohibiting driving over 100 miles per hour (mph) on a highway.

“At that speed, there’s no margin for error! Reckless driving endangers everyone on the road,” CHP stated on social media. “Slow down and drive responsibly. Arrive alive.”

A conviction for this infraction could include fines up to $500 (plus significant court fees and surcharges, bringing the total higher), a mandatory 30-day license suspension for a first offense, and two points on your driving record that remain for seven years. Repeated offenses within three to five years carry increased fines and longer mandatory license suspensions.

CHP has taken to social media at least three times this year to warn motorists about the dangers of speeding and displayed recent tickets.

In February a driver was ticketed for traveling 113 mph on Highway 101 near Santa Claus Lane, in June a motorcyclist was ticketed and had their motorcycle impounded for driving 120mph on Highway 101 in Goleta, and earlier this month an SUV driver was ticketed for several violations including traveling 109 mph on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara.
