CHP Attempts to Return Stolen Bicycle

Source: California Highway Patrol

A few months ago we posted about a series of bicycle thefts that had occurred in the Santa Barbara Area that the CHP was investigating. It is unfortunate that an active community such as Santa Barbara is being subjected to these thefts which appears to be an under-reported crime.

We know how much these bicycles mean to their owners and we try our best to reunite these bicycles back to their rightful owners, but that isn’t always the case. Sometimes identifying markings are scratched off or the serial number is not taken down at the time of purchase, so it can’t be added to a police report if a bicycle is stolen.

We highly encourage owners to document their serial numbers and to be creative with adding additional identifying markings to their bicycles so authorities can attempt to locate them.

With that said, the CHP is investigating another bicycle theft and would like your help in returning this bicycle to its rightful owner. The CHP recovered a SCOTT Scale bicycle. If you had this type of bicycle and it was stolen, please contact Officer D. Youngblood at the Santa Barbara CHP Area office at (805) 967-1234.

If you call our office, please clarify the type, model #, color and anything unique about the stolen bicycle we recovered to make sure we are returning the property to its rightful owner.
