I emailed C'est Cheese after hearing a rumor about them closing and here is what the owner wrote:

"... our cheese shop and catering are still up and running.  Our cafe, however, is closed.  We were forced to close it and let go of the staff due to the revenue losses we incurred during the fire since this is by far our busiest month of the year."

The book store that was there, said they got their rent increased, so they decided to close-up shop. Miss you Karen

These are just businesses. Did any of them go out of their way to protect competitors they faced? Really people...get a grip.

The reasons ODB closed their cafe, and is not even due to reopen until APRIL, are up to them, not the cheese store. You could as well throw some blame at Handlebar Coffee, or Mayo's or Our Daily Grind or.... Yes, it's sad to see this happen to a local icon. Like Sojourner -- look at the backlash they got for asking for help. Sigh. I miss Jimboz too, to tell the truth.

Sort of ironic that they pushed out Our Daily Bread and now both cafes are closed, at least for some time.

They didn't push out ODB. ODB wanted to move, which was a big mistake, and C'est Cheese took over the old space. Went to the new ODB cafe location on De la Vina a couple times--more expensive breakfast stuff that wasn't very good, service not as friendly or competent, really felt like a completely different business--and not in a good way. Bread fine, cafe not so much....So it makes sense that they're also closing their cafe business. C'est Cheese I just found way too expensive myself.
