With July 4th coming up, the City of Goleta wants to remind you that setting off fireworks is illegal. Watch a video message from Goleta Mayor Paula Perotte, Santa Barbara County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig and Goleta Chief of Police Services Lt. Rich Brittingham reminding community members to celebrate Independence Day without illegal fireworks. The video is available in English and Spanish from the City’s Spanish Engagement Specialist Marcos Martinez. Please watch and share with friends and family.

To report illegal fireworks, call the non-emergency dispatch line at 805-683-2724.

Besides being dangerous, fireworks can be stressful for pets and people who are noise sensitive.

Santa Barbara County Animal Services (SBCAS) wants pet owners to plan ahead. Crates are available for loan for free from now through July 7 at any SBCAS shelter location, including the one at Overpass Road in Goleta. SBCAS firework pet safety tips include: get a microchip or update your current one; check that your gates/fence are secure; and provide distractions. For more tips from SBCAS click here.

If you are looking for something fun to do during the day in Goleta, head over to the Goleta Valley Historical Society’s Annual Old Fashioned 4th of July at the Stow House from 11am – 4pm. For more information visit https://goletahistory.org/old-fashioned-4th-july/.

While no group has organized a professional fireworks show in Goleta this year as has been done in year’s past, the City of Goleta hopes you have a safe and fun Independence Day wherever you choose to celebrate the Fourth of July.
