Celebrate Creek Week This Week with Storm Drain Chalk Art

The 22nd Annual Creek Week is officially underway, having kicked off on September 18 and running through September 25. Creek Week is an annual celebration of our creeks, watersheds and the ocean, with many local organizations hosting events to help build awareness and stewardship of the natural treasures of Goleta, Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, and throughout the County.
We want to see your creative side – create your own sidewalk chalk art at your nearest storm drain as part of the Storm Drain Chalk Art contest! Enter your photos on social media for a chance to win some great prizes, such as reusable mugs, eco-friendly insulated bags, and gift cards to local businesses. To enter, share a picture on Facebook or Instagram tagged with #sbcreekweek. If you are a Goleta resident, you can also send your photos and a brief caption to PIO@CityofGoleta.org for a chance to be on our Facebook (@CityofGoleta) and Instagram (@cityofgoleta) pages. Your photos may also be used in our monthly Monarch Press e-newsletter or the City website (www.CityofGoleta.org). Winners will be selected on Monday, September 27.
We can’t wait to see your designs! Pro tip: Give your fingertips a break and use a rag to gently blend the chalk. Please be safe! Do not sit or stand in the gutter while creating your artwork; remain on the sidewalk. Be aware of traffic and other hazards.
There are many other fun County-wide events planned for Creek Week, including various tours and discussions. Select the ones you want to participate in by visiting the Creek Week calendar or facebook.com/SBCreekWeek/ to view all events.
We would like to thank all our local partners, with a special thanks to the City of Santa Barbara Creeks Division for coordinating this effort. We are looking forward to celebrating our creeks and watersheds together!
