Cat of the Week: Oreo

Source: ASAP Cats

Hi! My name is Oreo, can you guess why?! I’ve got some special needs which my adopter needs to consider seriously. I don’t actually know I have any of these issues as I’m having a pretty awesome life, but my people tell me I need someone really understanding to adopt me.

Our veterinarian has diagnosed Oreo with neurological issues, mild loss of body/motor control, and deficits when it comes to feeling and placing his paws when walking. He’s completely ambulatory and isn’t experiencing any pain, but he’s a bit wobbly in his back end.

He loves to play and receive attention. But can get underfoot as you walk and he is a bit of a “tripping hazard”. Because he doesn’t have a good sense of where he is in an environment, his adoptive family needs to be committed to looking out for him when you are walking around.. He also does not know if he is up high off the ground and could fall injuring himself. Oreo needs a home that is on one level (no stairs) and he should be discouraged from climbing. He also needs a very low sided litter box to aid in easy access.

His foster reports: “Oreo doing great, and he has made a famous friend in John Palminteri!”

Because of Oreo’s special needs, he should not be in a home with other cats, dogs or young children.

Every adoptable cat at ASAP is neutered or spayed, treated for fleas, vaccinated and dewormed as needed.

All of our cats are currently in foster care. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application at: asapcats.org
