Castillo Street Project Continues with Concrete Pour

Source: Caltrans

(SANTA BARBARA) – An emergency project to improve conditions on the US Highway 101 undercrossing at Castillo Street continued this morning with the concrete pour for the new concrete slab installed over the steel rebar and geo composite drain.

This newly poured concrete slab will need approximately four weeks to fully cure.  Motor vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles are prohibited from using the Castillo Street  Undercrossing until the concrete is fully cured.

Castillo Street remains closed from US Highway 101 to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks for  the next  five weeks.  The southbound on/off ramps to US Highway 101 at  Castillo Street  remain closed for the duration of this project.  Motorists headed southbound on US Highway 101 may use the off-ramps at West  Carrillo Street or Garden Street.  Local traffic near Castillo Street will detour onto State Street or Garden Street.

The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) has established an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) bus stop for Lines 5 and 15x on eastbound Montecito Street at Bath Street for the duration of this project.

Caltrans has installed signs to direct motorists to the Santa Barbara Harbor area which is  fully open during this project.  Detour signs have been posted near Castillo Street to assist  motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians during this project.

The contractor for this $1.5 million project is Security Paving of Sylmar, CA.  This project is  expected to be completed by the end of August.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
