Casa De Maria Update

We'd been wondering if the lovely Casa De Maria would be able to rebound after the massive flood damage there. Even a week ago we couldn't see much work from overhead. Friday's flight brought us hope as we saw equipment starting to dig out around the chapel and courtyard. We also saw reason to hope that the dorms and retreat center would be repairable. The office and main meeting room are still gone of course, as is the pool even though the little pool house is still visible. We got many other pix on the flight, but maybe like us you're on overload from all the destruction? Shall I send any more to Ed?

Mike Eliason captured a photo of the damage from mudflow in the chapel at La Casa de Maria in Montecito.

The center has been providing their own updates on their Facebook page, see below:

Thanks for the feedback, and the excellent additional links & info. Very hopeful! I made an animated GIF file of a gMaps 3D view that lines up fairly well (different "lens" geometry) with my aerial pic and put it on SBitZ.NET to show before/after major buildings & pool that are gone now. It didn't seem to play, so I also attached an MP4 movie version of it that does seem to play in my Firefox web browser and you can also click to download it. If I find any other good pix of Casa from the 2/2 flight I'll post them there, along with probably some pix of other stuff. I'm also looking for more pix to send Ed.

So very happy that they'll survive and hopefully will thrive in the future. It's a sacred space and a much loved one.

So sorry for their troubles. My father-in-law's memorial was in the chapel. When I was in the early grades at Mt. Carmel school our teachers, IHM sisters (nuns), treated us to a pool day and picnic at the convent. Huge treat to swim in a pool!
