Carp Kitchen & Grocery on Carpinteria Avenue has closed its doors, four years after opening.

The business opened its outlet in the former Crushcakes space on Carpinteria Avenue in 2021.

In an Instagram post on October 18, 2025, Carp Kitchen wrote, “It is with a heavy heart and so much gratitude that I share Carp Kitchen is closing.”

For four years, it was a go-to spot for house-made pastries, deli salads, sandwiches, and other prepared foods.

Between October 17 and 21, Carp Kitchen offered a 35% discount on groceries, wine, kitchen and catering equipment, as well as bakery equipment.

Known For its Fresh Food and Friendly Service

Known for its fresh food and warm service, Carp Kitchen offered homemade soups, salads, vegan selections, and gourmet goods. Owner and chef Deb Goldman, a trained culinary professional behind Savory Thyme Catering, was praised for her creative menu and personal touch.

Signature dishes included the garden salad with house dressing and the lemon chicken soup. Guests appreciated the flavorful vegan options and gourmet grocery selections. Staff were often praised for their warmth and hospitality, while Goldman’s training and passion came through in every recipe.

Carp Kitchen Leaves Behind a Legacy of Local Flavor and Fair Pay

Opened in November 2021, Carp Kitchen served lunch daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closing on Tuesdays.

The specialty food store featured a prepared food counter for takeout and delivery, surrounded by a small grocery with freshly made sauces, dressings, pasta, breads, and more.

Among the grocery items were local and imported cheeses, canned fish, hot sauces, locally produced specialties, fresh flowers, and a curated selection of home goods, cookbooks, and food-themed gifts.
