On Friday, August 22, U.S. Representative Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24) conducted an oversight visit to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing facility in Santa Maria to assess conditions and convey concerns raised by constituents regarding ICE operations on the Central Coast.
During the visit, Carbajal toured the facility and engaged directly with ICE officials, raising critical questions about the well-being of the individuals detained at the facility. He inquired about access to adequate food and water, availability of legal counsel, and the process for medical evaluations. The inspection was part of the Congressman’s ongoing commitment to holding ICE officials accountable.
“Residents across the Central Coast have voiced serious concerns about ICE’s activities in our community,” said Rep. Carbajal. “As their representative in Congress, I conducted an inspection of the Santa Maria ICE facility as part of my oversight responsibilities. I met with facility officials to directly raise the issues my constituents have been calling and writing to me about. While our conversation was productive, this is by no means a ‘one-and-done’ visitation. As long as ICE continues to pursue aggressive tactics in our community, I will continue to demand answers and push for accountability to ensure that detainees are treated fairly and afforded their full constitutional rights.”
The Santa Maria ICE processing facility is where individuals taken into custody are processed for potential immigration violations. These centers handle individuals who may be subject to deportation, are awaiting immigration court proceedings, or are being held for other immigration-related reasons, such as during targeted operations.
Carbajal is a leader in Congress in pushing for commonsense immigration reform and holding federal immigration enforcement officers accountable to the communities they serve.
In June 2025, Carbajal co-sponsored the No Secret Police Act, which would require law enforcement officers and agents of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) engaged in border security and civil immigration enforcement to clearly display identification and insignia when detaining or arresting individuals and to ban them from using home-made, non-tactical masks.
In July 2025, Carbajal co-led the introduction of the bipartisan Dignity Act, a bipartisan bill that would introduce reforms into our country’s immigration system. The bill includes commonsense reforms to legal status and protections for undocumented immigrants, border security investments, and improved asylum and visa processes.
In the same month, Carbajal reintroduced the Fight for the American Dream Act, legislation that allows participants of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program to serve in the United States military and provides them a pathway toward U.S. citizenship after their service.
In June 2025, Carbajal introduced the Protect Patriot Parents Act, which would make parents of U.S. military servicemembers eligible for Lawful Permanent Resident status, preventing potential deportations or separations of military families.
Carbajal is also a co-sponsor of the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which establishes a program for agricultural workers in the United States to earn legal status through continued agricultural employment and contributions to the U.S. agricultural economy.

Funny that Salud didn’t have ANYTHING to say about the actual conditions in the facility he specifically took his time out to personally inspect. Wasn’t that why we paid to have him spend his time there as a public servant? He could have said it was horrible, or it was adequate. He said nothing. So that means it was just fine. Thanks a lot. Done.
BASIC – “Keep defending criminals guys. It suits your sad party. 🫏”
This from the guy who literally voted for a convicted felon who bragged about sexually assaulting women, watching underage girls get dressed and is now calling out the victims of his buddy’s child raping as pushing a “Democrat hoax” while giving another child rapist special treatment and moving her child raping carcass to a country club for white collar criminals, who also pardoned HUNDREDS of violent criminals who were CONVICTED of beating and maiming police officers (erp dEfUNd thE pOLiCe) back into our communities while at the same time ripping away hard-working, non-criminal tax payers from their families and sending them to countries other than they were originally from…..
Bro…. Sit the FUGH down with that “defending criminals” BS. You people are sick.
Always on your knees for any POS with a badge and always failing to read.
It’s called “oversight” dude.
BASIC – who cares really what he says? The inspections are significant for other reasons. Yeah, the actual conditions are part of it and he asked about them, but the lack of a comment here in this release as to them doesn’t mean everything is “just fine.” Further, this isn’t the only inspection he’s doing at this place. These inspections serve to challenge the Feds who have frequently denied access. They also serve to provide transparency as to how the detainees are being treated.
Whether he says the conditions are “horrible” or “adequate” in this short press release which is in no way a complete report on his findings here, is really irrelevant to the big picture here: he is making his presence known and demanding transparency in a time of federal abuse of laws and humans.
I’m sure you’ll get your answer when he releases a full report that you’ll never read.
Aw cmon, he’s had the opportunity to hold another press conference and big deal photo op like he played up at the Carp weed farm last month, and guess what…he didn’t. He found nothing to squawk about. Keep defending criminals guys. It suits your sad party. 🫏
Salud Carbajal is not a criminal.
Keep kissing that orange butt!
” this is by no means a ‘one-and-done’ visitation” Why do you defend your team denying representatives access for 72 hours before an inspection occurs. The law allows representatives to show up and enter at will without notice. Plenty of time to clean up feces, by toilet paper, diapers, feminine products and Evian at Costco.
Odd, I don’t recall one Democrat OR Republican inspecting the ICE facilities as Obama/Biden deported illegal aliens. That must have somehow been ‘different’.
False.
ZIPS – “That must have somehow been ‘different’.”
Yeah, Einstein, when Obama and Biden deported people it was WAY different. You’d have to be dumb as brick to not see that. Glad you do. Or wait….
Also, learn punctuation.
I would rather him put his time and effort into improving the lives of US citizens and less time worrying about people who came across our borders illegally.
The US tried that in the 1919-1941. Look what happened with Germany.
DAVID – many people in ICE detention (and being deported) did not “come across our borders illegally.”
Additionally, over 70% of people in ICE custody have never been convicted of any crime, much less a violent one. Actual, convicted violent criminals make up a very small percentage of the ICE arrests.
Try being an American and putting your COUNTRY first, for once.
Try reading the Constitution.
Nah. Fuk Nationalism. Fuk flags. Fuk billionaire dictators. And fuk their greasy little puppets.
Jingoism is so overrated. Try living in the 21st century, Steve.
I would rather that he protect human rights. I couldn’t give a single F about nationality.
Salud you’re done and dried up ! there’s nothing you can do or nothing that you did do ((that’s the problem)
Don’t post while inebriated. It results in word salads.
Two things- This current uproar and immigration issue rests solely on Biden and Mayorkas for letting in more than 12 to 15 MILLION unvetted people, including more than 400,000 unaccompanied minors into our Country. The Obama Administration DEPORTED 3 MILLION illegal immigrants during his Administrations. Also, look up President’s Clinton’s State of the Union address in 1995, regarding illegal immigration; “All Americans … are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers.”…
Yeah, nah. I don’t support constitutional lawlessness and corruption – supported and driven by Christian nationalists who only have decption and corruption to uphold their twisted agendas. So many MAGAs are so easily manipulated and that lack a moral compass. During Donald Trump’s first term (2017–2021), illegal immigration at the southern border initially fell but steadily increased afterward, reaching a 12-year high in 2019 before dropping again due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It surged again before he left office.
Why? And, Why?
