Can Motorhomes park at Goleta Beach Overnight?

By an edhat reader

I was just wondering if people can park motorhomes at the Goleta beach parking lot overnight. I ride my bike in the early morning hours and there are at least 5 motorhomes, and cars too, parked with people sleeping in them. I thought you couldn’t park overnight? Are they paying someone to park there or does the ranger let them? Yesterday morning I saw a man walking to the bathroom with his toothbrush.

  1. I used to enjoy picking up breakfast, driving to Goleta beach and either watching the waves or the birds in the west parking lot. The growing numbers of these permanent homes loud music, drunken fights, lawn chairs spread out over several parking places, garbage, and a general feeling of not being save put an end to this. I doubt that one “home” has been moved in a while but to the condition of its tires, (being flat). This tax-paying female senior citizen no longer can take advantage of another beach in Santa Barbara County. Too bad.

  2. wow folks…so you are bothered because some people who have less than you and are down on their luck, park an RV so the can rest…in a parking lot? I happen to frequent Goleta beach and the fishing pier. I’m there several days/nights a week to fish and paddle board. So where are all of these fights, lawn chairs, trash and a parking lot full of broken down RVs? Hmmm…they must all leave each time I’m there. Now there are a few RVs, yes, but really, SO WHAT. They have every right to be there as you do. It’s public property not private. It’s a beach and is not owned by anyone….just regulated…poorly at that.
I sometimes can’t sleep and go fishing in the middle of the night. There are always about 10 others fishing on the pier as well, they have cars too…some of them go for a nap and wake up and drive home. Some of them live in Bakersfield…LA, Santa Maria. But nevertheless, before you start bitching and whining about some poor person having to resort to living in an RV, look around at what you have. You have more than them and aren’t homeless. So stop. Seriously. Those people are no better or worse than you….we are all just a phone call away from being in the same spot. Fact.

  3. lets not gate the parking lot, the pier is open to fishing ALL HOURS. It is actually very enjoyable to do also. I have meet many fishermen from all over california fishing off goleta pier in the middle of the night. The RV’s have a schedule, they know when to leave, and when to show up. eventually they will be asked to leave, but until then lets not ruin it for everyone else please.
