I was just wondering if people can park motorhomes at the Goleta beach parking lot overnight. I ride my bike in the early morning hours and there are at least 5 motorhomes, and cars too, parked with people sleeping in them. I thought you couldn't park overnight? Are they paying someone to park there or does the ranger let them? Yesterday morning I saw a man walking to the bathroom with his toothbrush.

City of Santa Barbara has now been sued in federal court by the Committee for Social Justice on behalf of RV residents in the city. These issues are nation wide. If people with no alternative to housing other than the bushes, alleys and RVs are driven to jail or even more remote places our nation has no soul. Let's work to provide the most basic of housing for the least of us on an equitable, distributed and responsible basis.

lets not gate the parking lot, the pier is open to fishing ALL HOURS. It is actually very enjoyable to do also. I have meet many fishermen from all over california fishing off goleta pier in the middle of the night. The RV's have a schedule, they know when to leave, and when to show up. eventually they will be asked to leave, but until then lets not ruin it for everyone else please.

The problem is, as usual, due to only a few, who ruin it for others. When an R.V. dweller does not maintain their vehicle, dumps trash or worse, grey or black waste tanks into arbitrary storm drains, etc. it makes people who don't live in R.V.'s pissed off.
It's all about keeping a low profile.

I am regularly at Goleta Beach in the morning. The RVs are not allowed to overnight and this is enforced. They roll in as early as 5am and set up there for the day. I know most of the rangers and their practice is that if someone appears to have spent the night they will make them aware that they can be cited. Even though they may have the appearance of not having moved, that isn't the case. The sheriff patrols regularly throughout the night. You may only be parked in the lot overnight if you are fishing.

No. You cannot. As per county ordinance. See here:

They're breaking the law. Not that I think its a particularly good law, but we have to vote to change that.

I think it’s okay for them to park there for a short time but some of the RVs look older one even had a flat tire it looks like it’s been there for awhile and they have trash bags outside of their RVs and even a stuff giraffe animal that is kinda creepy to some people! Maybe they should be able to stay but pay something we all pay rent to live here in either SB or Goleta they should be no different ! It would be good idea if the police enforcement came around sometime and check status of are you living here or just visiting for awhile they should be charged for overnight stays just like everyone else!

wow folks...so you are bothered because some people who have less than you and are down on their luck, park an RV so the can rest...in a parking lot? I happen to frequent Goleta beach and the fishing pier. I'm there several days/nights a week to fish and paddle board. So where are all of these fights, lawn chairs, trash and a parking lot full of broken down RVs? Hmmm...they must all leave each time I'm there. Now there are a few RVs, yes, but really, SO WHAT. They have every right to be there as you do. It's public property not private. It's a beach and is not owned by anyone....just regulated...poorly at that.
I sometimes can't sleep and go fishing in the middle of the night. There are always about 10 others fishing on the pier as well, they have cars too...some of them go for a nap and wake up and drive home. Some of them live in Bakersfield...LA, Santa Maria. But nevertheless, before you start bitching and whining about some poor person having to resort to living in an RV, look around at what you have. You have more than them and aren't homeless. So stop. Seriously. Those people are no better or worse than you....we are all just a phone call away from being in the same spot. Fact.

Zerohawk has shown us how to virtue signal.....thanks so much .....maybe Zerohawk could invite the aforementioned RV crowd to park in his driveway and lawn area overnight......he could charge a fee ( since it is private property ) for overnight camping......maybe his neighbors could provide food and a bathroom by opening up their houses to the victims.......

People living in RVs know that if they don't answer when the cops knock, they can't be cited. They can only give them a ticket for illegal parking. Get enough of them, and they lose their RV and are then on the street. Would you rather have them in their RVs or on State Street? Those seem to be the only 2 options.

All the county parks once had rangers living there. Maybe Goleta Beach still has a resident ranger but I think that one is gone too. Tax cuts means fewer services.

I used to enjoy picking up breakfast, driving to Goleta beach and either watching the waves or the birds in the west parking lot. The growing numbers of these permanent homes loud music, drunken fights, lawn chairs spread out over several parking places, garbage, and a general feeling of not being save put an end to this. I doubt that one “home” has been moved in a while but to the condition of its tires, (being flat). This tax-paying female senior citizen no longer can take advantage of another beach in Santa Barbara County. Too bad.

I've seen them, too. One has a mighty tough dog. Sometimes they will leave for a few days and then all come back. My guess: enforcement, they leave, wait a minute, come back, start all over. Spotty enforcement, no teeth.
