A 10-year-old California boy received an unexpected and heartwarming surprise after writing to a shopping mall with a very specific Christmas wish.
Unlike other children who write to Santa Claus asking for gifts, Brodey Watson, a fifth grader and a resident of Torrance, decided to pen a letter to the Del Amo Fashion Center hoping that the source itself could make his wish come true, according to a video shared on social media by the City of Torrance.
In the letter, Brodey explained his love for LEGO and said he hoped to see a Lego store at the Del Amo Mall.
He mentioned that building Lego products brings him joy and fuels his dream to become an engineer one day.

Addressing the letter to Simon Property Group, which manages the Del Amo Fashion Center, Brodey wrote that he has often been disappointed when shopping for Lego sets at other stores, where some sets are often unavailable. A dedicated Lego Store would offer a wide range of sets and make it easier for fans like him to find specific sets, he wrote.
Instead of ignoring the letter and leaving Brodey without an answer, mall authorities decided to rise to the occasion.
While they couldn’t promise a Lego store at the mall, the management surprised Brodey with $200 in Lego Store gift cards along with four passes to LEGOLAND to honor his passion for building and creative letter, according to the Instagram video.
The thoughtful gesture moved Brodey who said he was “speechless” by the mall’s response.
“They could have ignored it, so it just really touched my heart,” Brodey said in the video.
For his family, the surprise gifts came at a meaningful moment. Brodey’s mother, Eileen Watson, said the gesture felt like a fresh start, especially after the recent government shutdown.
Describing him as passionate about Lego, Eileen said Brodey had loved playing with Legos since he was a one-year-old toddler.
The letter came as a pleasant surprise for the mall authorities.
“This is the first time that I’ve seen in my career where someone has written a letter to management versus Santa,” Nichole Figueroa, Del Amo Fashion Center’s director of marketing and business development, said in the video.
While there may not be a Lego store for Brodey and other Lego enthusiasts at the shopping mall as yet, Figueroa said to “tune in and wait to see” when asked about the possibility of a Lego Store in the future.
