Led by local business leaders Bob and Patty Bryant, 220 local community leaders have returned from the highly successful 2022 Summit for Danny International Climb in Wales. This year’s Climb raised over $165,000 for the Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Center, home to the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA) treatment programs for local teens struggling with substance abuse. More than 7,500 teens have been served by the Center since it opened in 2001.
All participants in the International Climb cover their own expenses and are additionally responsible for raising a minimum donation, which allows every dollar contributed by the public to directly benefit CADA’s Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Center.
Since the International Summit Climbs began in 2000, nearly $3 million has been raised to support the Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Center, with locations in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Lompoc. The effort was launched after the death of Bob Bryant’s son Danny from a drug overdose. Bob was committed to turn his tragedy into hope for others by raising funds to create an adolescent drug and alcohol treatment center.

Their commitment to helping local teens overcome drug abuse is vital to making our community healthy and strong.”
Over six days, hikers selected from routes designed to accommodate all levels of walking and hiking ability. The adventure began in the heart of Brecon Beacons National Park and included time on Offa’s Dyke Path, in the rugged Black Mountains, the small Welsh village of Hay-on-Wye, the Llyn y Fan Lakeland area, Pembrokeshire Coast Path, the ruins of Bishop’s Palace, Saundersfoot, and the stunning Carew Castle.
“The fellowship among the hikers this year was just fantastic,” said Bob Bryant. “The people everywhere we went were very gracious and welcoming. The countryside is lush and green. And everyone had a dog! Wonderful dogs just everywhere. The hiking was superb, the history was fascinating, and the food was outstanding at every unique meal. In all respects, it was one of our best International Summits ever. And most important, our hikers raised significant funding for the many local kids and families who need CADA’s help.”
Over the past 19 years, dedicated International Climbers have trekked Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Canadian Arctic, Peru, Ecuador, Bhutan, Patagonia, Mont Blanc, Bosnia, New Zealand, the historic Camino de Santiago, Spain, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland.

Annual Community Climb Scheduled for October 29
In addition to its International Summit Climb, CADA also hosts an annual local hiking event. The Annual Summit for Danny Community Climb will take place on Saturday, October 29, at Elings Park in Santa Barbara, the largest public park in America, located at 1298 Las Positas Road.
As part of their registration, hikers receive a Summit for Danny t-shirt and hat. They select their route from two levels of activity: the 5-mile hike begins at 9:45 a.m.; the 3-mile hike begins at 10:45 a.m. Both hikes conclude at approximately 11:30 a.m., when hikers return to the park’s deck in Godric Grove to enjoy a BBQ hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Barbara, live music and special awards.
Cost to participate is $50 per adult and $25 per youth (ages 8-18); children 7 and under are free. Businesses and other organizations can also form and sponsor their own teams.
