KEYT reports a homeless camp near the scene. If you believe that climate change is the biggest existential threat to this planet, then these human-created fires should be of utmost concern. Not only do these unnecessary fires release CO2 into the atmosphere, they damage and destroy vegetation that serves as a CO2 reservoir. When the plastics at these camps burn, toxins are released as well.

By my count that’s four fires in the past few weeks in that area. What’s a greater risk: breaking up these camps or risking one of these fires getting out of control? These camps are all the way up and down the freeway and railroad corridor.
