Brush fire off Elise Way on the Mesa behind a fence, possible homeless encampment.
Very small fire.
Chateaux Elise, at Elise Way off Mesa Park...
Lite smoke showing very small fire.
One engine can handle everyone else is cancelled Investigator requested.
The fire is down a long driveway off Chateaux Elise.
Thank the Good Dog someone noticed it before it got out of hand.
The two fires last week on the Mesa behind McKinley School were thought to be homeless, too. Nice. The homeless will soon see to it that we're ALL homeless.
We should have compassion for the homeless they just want us to go camping with them.
And are working hard by starting fires to make it a reality!
Clear out all illegal camps - extreme health and saftey risk. Zero tolerance.
They should be referred to as "Vagrants" "Homeless" are people who lived in a dwelling and were forced out.
I post what the dispatcher calls them usually transients, or homeless..
We Santa Barbarans now call them "The Unsheltered." (He wrote, sardonically.)
My dictionary says, "home-less, having nor home or haven."
Time to crack down on all of these encampments. They are a fundamental threat to the health and safety of the city and its residents. We must show zero tolerance due to the high fire danger they pose. Our safety supersede the individuals rights here. It is time to crack down hard, clean them all up and assure they do not reappear.
Tell that to the ACLU- They have done more to damage the quality of life for most Americans than any organization around.
The ACLU has done more damage than any org? Umm, how about the NRA or the pharma lobby? How about the oil companies or Halliburton / Monsanto? How about the Family and their push to inject their religious views into your home and your life? You need to stop listening to talk radio buddy, your fear is palpable and grossly misguided. The ACLU fights for people's constitutional rights. Something you'd think that most Righties would be for except for the fact that the ACLU tends to squash racists and work to overturn long standing racially biased laws... But race couldn't be a part of your rage towards the ACLU now could it? Nah.
Here is a quote from the city of Santa Barbara’s current wildfire plan, dated January 21, 2004: “Historic brush fire ignitions within the high fire hazard area did not give solid data on fire ignition patterns and it is recommended data be further developed using all fire start data, such as structure and vehicle fires. However, three areas did stand out. Fire ignition patterns focused primarily around schools, Highway 101, and the railroad tracks. These ignition points were located outside the high fire hazard area and will not specifically be included as part of this plan, but help inform the plan analysis. Further development of the brush fire ignitions will help to analyze better fire prevention actions within the high fire hazard area since any fire (structure fire, vehicle fire, equipment, etc.) occurring during high fire danger weather poses a significant fire risk.” So fifteen years ago the city recognized that many fires start near schools, railway and highway 101, but decided not to include these areas as part of their planning. It’s time for a new fire suppression plan.

It was a very small fire. My boys and I saw it shortly after it started. We called it in. Scary because it was in middle and at the base of a eucalyptus grove which is very flammable. We could not get to it to put it out as it was behind a locked gate. Fire crew cut th elocution and were in within minutes.
Thank you for calling it in. You may have saved a lot of residents a s--t-ton of grief.
