Brush Fire on Sycamore Canyon

Vegetation Fire in Sycamore Canyon on December 25, 2018

Monday night the Santa Barbara City Police and Fire combined communications center received numerous calls and reports of a fire on Sycamore Canyon near Las Alturas Road. Santa Barbara City Fire Department dispatched 3 fire engines and a Battalion Chief to the scene. The first engine company captain reported the fire was 2 acres in size. A request was made for additional fire equipment. Montecito, Carpinteria and Santa Barbara County Fire Departments responded to assist with engine companies and additional Chief officers.

Santa Barbara Police assisted with traffic control and the possible need for evacuations, however no evacuations were ordered. The fire was out in less than 90 minutes. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation. Firefighters are ready to respond to any and all emergencies at all times.

Your Santa Barbara City Fire Department would like to remind everyone, when you hear the sirens and see the lights of emergency vehicle approaching, please pull over to the right and allow them to safely continue to their emergency.

Sycamore Canyon vegetation fire update:

The fire is out and crews are still mopping up some areas. No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged. Mutual aid resources have been released. Thank you Merry Christmas.

Firefighters are fighting a vegetation fire approximately 2 acres per on scene reports. The fire is on Sycamore Canyon Road near Las Alturas. Santa Barbara Police Department has officers assisting with traffic control and possible evacuations. Montecito Fire and Carpinteria Fire Department and. Santa Barbara County Fire Department are assisting also.

Once again, infrastructure from the 1900’s (Wires on Poles) starting yet ANOTHER fire in California… Lets not require power companies to bring underground utilities to the year 2019, let’s let them continue to pay billions of dollars in management bonuses and shareholder stocks… F%$* infrastructure, this is ‘Merica!

  2. That’s quite normal for our local news media. I remember calling KEYT News several years ago, when there was a fire on a major holiday to find out what was happening during a fire outbreak. The poor young lady who answered could only tell me that there would be mention of it when they had their regular news show at 5:30 PM(?). That they had a skeleton crew on and no one was available to go out to report live. They didn’t have ANY people on ‘standby’ for breaking news. I felt bad for her. I’m sure that many people had already called and been less than understanding in speaking with her. I told her I knew it wasn’t her fault, but suggested to her that she should let the newsroom that they really should have people available for such situations. Guess it still doesn’t make sense to them.
