Santa Barbara County firefighters are on the scene of a brush fire along Highway 101 southbound lanes, just south of El Capitan State Beach.

Now being referred to as the "Cap Incident," the call time was 3:35 p.m. Friday. Fire crews report an active fire burning between Highway 101 and the Union Pacific railroad tracks. It's estimated to be 1/4 acre in size in medium fuel with a slow rate of speed.

The Incident Command on scene cancelled air support and dozers as forward progress of the fire has been halted. The on-scene crew of three engines, one hand crew, and one battalion chief can handle the fire from here.

Traffic is backed up in the area but all lanes are open and the Amtrak schedule remains the same.
