Me and NOSTARACHUMASH Havebeen talking about one gathering camp for years but don't worry Santa Barbara only picks the most expensive solutions to deal with the homeless and they never seem to quite work. They just keep throwing more money at it..
I completely agree with SBLetsGetAlong. Create tent cities where it will be The Lord of the Flies society, but at least they won't be in the bushes torching trees next to homes and businesses. Make vagrancy a crime, and give them a choice of jail or a tent.
I like this idea too. Put them in a contained area like a tent-city. Provide security and portable showers. Round 'em up. Head 'em in! No. They don't get to choose someplace else, unless it's out of the county...
Folks..
This topic will never, not-ever, go away.
As long as the city stands to profit from homelessness via grants & donations, the population will continue to exist & thrive!..F.U...& F-ME & our needs or rights.
It is absolutely true, that money is placed over our health & safety.
Unless one finds a way to make $ from the transient demographic, they are here to stay.
They are a separate & sovereign group, with their own laws & rules.
All I ha e to say is that if I lost my ho e to a fire, I’d sue the government, cal trans and the rail road. All of these groups are aware of the camps and the dangers they present to health & safety and they ignore it, or choose to do nothing. Negligence.
Since they are aware and choose to not do anything to protect the people they are liable.
A small homeless camp fire was put out this morning on Brandon in Goleta neighbors say if it would have gotten out of hand it would have really been a problem as it was in an Eucalyptus Grove.
Homeless studies have been Cindy fed since the 80s.
There have been multiple “collective” “efforts” since the 80s to “help” homeless
Seems like the government spends more money paying for studies than actually creating solutions.
Most of the low income housing is built by private companies The government has spent hundreds of thousands in researching why people are homeless since the 80s. They are spending their money or using govt land to help.
The government expects private citizens and businesses to step up.
It’s about time they honor what they know is right, housing first. And not build six figure studios downtown with a private builder.
Create sanctioned tent cities. Each shelter is about $1,000 and is 144 sf meeting government guidelines so each Santa Barbara resident who is homeless can have a roof.
But that doesn’t put money in researchers pockets and it would mean the government would actually have to work.
Someone’s going to lose their home, business or their life. Then the County, SB City, Goleta City , CalTrans and Southern Pacific will get sued. Then maybe they will try harder to keep communities safe.
Not to worry, government agencies are studying what might be done about homeless camps along the 101. Maybe they will have some ideas before the sundowners come, but the window of opportunity to do anything is narrowing rapidly.
