  1. Very typical of this type of tree to drop branches without much notice. The city would be wise to cut the other trees back significantly and/or remove them altogether for safety. There are several of these trees that line Cabrillo Blvd. near the pool facility, and they make quite a mess. Same goes for those located where De la Vina meets State Street all the way to Ontare Road. They are at the upper end of their lifecycle, which is around 40 years give or take. Time to consider replacing with native trees that last longer and less prone to dropping dangerous branches.

  2. Pfft. Now Parks & Rec will use this as an excuse to destroy even more Milpas St. trees. REALLY lucky no one was hurt.** Keep the trees and now keep them propertly maintained.** This is the fault of P & R for not staying on top of tree maintenance. ————- Speaking from personal experience, in recently interacting with Santa Barbara street tree maintenance, the current City Arborist and those in charge of caring for our street trees aren’t nearly as proactive as they should be. Too busy cutting down mature and healthy trees, rather than seeing to it that our urban forest is kept healthy and well groomed.
