Last night at approximately 9pm (perhaps a bit before), while I was outside searching for my cat, I noticed a series of sporadic bright white concentrated flashes in the slightly north sky overhead. I am aware that satellites rotate and reflect the sunlight in well-timed flashes as they race across the sky, but these flashes ranged from dull to very bright (like an explosion). Nothing was audible.
They were not low altitude, so naturally I initially suspected a rotating satellite. The only thing is that it seemingly changed direction from heading east to northwest to north and then west to east. Once I discounted a satellite, I raced inside and got my family. They all witness this as well. Eventually it headed east and eventually faded out of sight. Anyone see this?
Did you then lose track of time and wake up this morning with a splitting headache and a very sore … ahem … backside?

The Orionid meteor shower is active, but wouldn’t have been anything spectacular, especially at that time. They are sparse, but tend to be fast and bright because they are pieces of Halley’s Comet, in a retrograde orbit.
Absolutely, but thinking that they visit here is ignorant.

Flashing bright lights can be a sign/indicator of a detached retina. Just sayin’.
