A project to replace the Salsipuedes Creek Bridge and construct a retaining wall and fish passage on Highway 1 near Lompoc continues this week with the installation of a temporary traffic signal.

This traffic signal will be in operation 24/7 through May of 2020 and will maintain one-way reversing traffic control with the width of each lane reduced to 11 ½ feet. Larger vehicles should be aware of this lane reduction.

The contractor for this $5 million project is CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria, CA.  This project is expected to be complete in June of 2021.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones.

For more information on this project and for traffic updates on other Caltrans projects in Santa Barbara County, residents may call the District 5 Public Affairs Office at (805) 549-3237 or visit our website at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/paffairs/release.htm#sb

Uhhhh Steelhead Trout swim many miles up river / stream to spawn. Before Bradbury dam was built, the Santa Ynez river was had the largest Steelhead run south of San Francisco.

Perhaps your wife should take your keyboard away from you so the adults can talk.

I stand corrected. In fact, my wife reminded me that during the El Nino floods of 1998/1999, a Steelhead accidentally swam up a drainage barranca behind our house thinking it was still in the Santa Ynez riverbed. Our neighbor had a license and a net - it was caught, dressed and served four that night. Tasted like Goldfish.

What fish? This bridge is at least 20 miles inland. Maybe someone dumps their goldfish off the bridge?

Thank goodness that fish passage is getting built seeing as the creeks are flowing so hard year round.
