In the heart of Ventura County, where citrus orchards meet the sea and golden light bathes rolling hills each evening, a new kind of drink is quietly reshaping how California tastes. atōst, a modern aperitif founded in the midst of uncertainty, draws its strength and soul from the land, the people, and a family legacy deeply rooted in Ventura’s agricultural heritage.
For co-founders Kyle and Cindy, atōst is far more than a beverage—it’s a distilled expression of home.
“Ventura’s landscape—sun-soaked orchards, ocean breeze, and rich farmland—has shaped who we are and how we see the world,” they reflect. “It’s a place where agriculture and creativity intersect daily.”
That intersection is precisely where atōst lives. It’s a drink born not just from innovation, but from memory. The brand’s name—stylized, elegant, almost whisper-soft—feels like an invitation: to pause, to sip, to savor.

A Heritage Etched in Citrus
Cindy’s connection to Ventura is personal and generational. Her grandparents, citrus farmers in the fields outside Santa Paula, passed down more than just a work ethic. They embedded in her a reverence for the land and a belief in the quiet power of building something with your hands.
“They didn’t come from wealth,” Cindy says, “but they had a deep connection to the land. That mindset carried into our home growing up—everything fresh, simple, and shared.”
That philosophy is palpable in every bottle of atōst: no shortcuts, no synthetic fillers—just whole ingredients, handled with care. It’s a tribute to a bygone way of living and working, and a vision for what modern drink culture can be.
The Taste of California, Captured
The atōst blend—orange, strawberry, and rose—was never meant to be trendy. It was meant to be timeless. These ingredients were chosen not in a boardroom, but through intuition and place. Orange, of course, is a natural homage to Ventura’s citrus groves. Strawberry, sweet and sun-kissed, is synonymous with coastal California. Rose adds a whisper of elegance—floral, romantic, a nod to California’s effortless glamour.
But simplicity is deceptive. Creating balance in an aperitif without using artificial flavors or coloring demands time, patience, and a deep respect for the ingredients.
“We started with a feeling,” they explain. “We wanted every sip to taste like golden hour on the California coast—vibrant, warm, and effortlessly inviting.”

Born in Crisis, Built with Care
Launching atōst in 2020—a year marred by global uncertainty and shuttered storefronts—required vision and adaptability. With bars and restaurants closed and traditional tastings off the table, the team turned inward.
They focused on what they could control: the product, the community, the message.
“That time taught us how to be resilient, resourceful, and—maybe most importantly—real,” they recall. “We didn’t try to be everything to everyone. We just stayed true to our California roots and let the product speak for itself.”
That authenticity resonated. While many brands struggled to stay afloat, atōst quietly carved out a niche—through hyper-local outreach, intentional storytelling, and a product that delivered more than a buzz. It offered a connection.
A Ritual, Not Just a Drink
Though it works beautifully in cocktails, atōst isn’t about mixology—it’s about moments. A backyard dinner at sunset. A solo unwind after a long week. A clink of glasses at the start of a gathering. atōst is designed to elevate, not overwhelm.
“We always say it’s best served over ice with sparkling wine and a slice of orange,” the founders note, “but the real magic is in how people make it their own.”
In a culture of speed and over-saturation, atōst feels like a counterbalance—an invitation to slow down and experience the world more fully, more presently.
Staying Rooted While Growing
As atōst gains traction beyond Ventura, the vision remains steadfast: growth without losing ground.
“Our growth will always come back to where we started—Ventura County is home,” they emphasize. “We don’t want to be a brand that just scales—we want to be one that stays rooted.”
That means continuing to source from local farmers, telling authentic stories from their community, and remaining hands-on as founders. It means reinvesting in the soil that raised them and ensuring every bottle is as intentional as the first.
atōst isn’t chasing trends. It’s cultivating something slower, deeper, and undeniably Californian.
