The body of an elderly woman that’s been missing for over a week was found on Tuesday in the Goleta Slough, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 11:11 am, Sheriff’s detectives located the body of 85-year-old Sonia Lang Crestfield in the Goleta Slough area.
She was last seen on July 11, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., near the Friendship Manor retirement community at 6647 El Colegio Rd in Isla Vista.

Crestfield was reported as an at-risk-missing person on July 14, 2025 and the Sheriff’s Office activated a Silver Alert.
The Sheriff’s Office states this death does not appear suspicious in nature. The cause and manner of death are pending investigation.

Absolutely heartbreaking….I’ve been following this story for a week. As someone who did caretaking for 5 years for my father who suffered from dementia….I’m gutted.
