A body was discovered Tuesday morning on Mesa Beach below Santa Barbara’s Mesa neighborhood, authorities said.

Santa Barbara Police said dispatchers received a report at approximately 9:52 a.m., February 24, of a body on the beach near the 1800 block of Camino de la Luz.

Officers and Santa Barbara Search and Rescue responded and located the body near rocks at the base of the cliff.

Search and Rescue recovered the body, believed to be a man in his 50s. Police said there were no signs of foul play, though the death remains under investigation.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau responded. The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

No additional details were immediately released.

This is a developing story.
