Santa Barbara Police responded to a report of a body found on East Beach early Monday morning.

At 6:45 a.m., officers received a report of an unresponsive male subject located at 1100 E. Cabrillo Blvd. just before 6:45 a.m. The subject was discovered by a passer-by who was walking on the beach and contacted 9-1-1, according to Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale to edhat.

"Following protocol, the subject received medical treatment on scene by City Fire and Paramedics,  then was transported to Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead," said Sgt. Ragsdale.

The name of the decedent is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.

The Police Department reports there does not appear to be anything suspicious regarding the death but the case remains under investigation.

There's nothing suspicious about a dead person on East Beach at 6:45am?

Not that unusual for these vagrants to go "tango uniform" on the beach, or in the parks all the time.

Could have been obvious signs of why they died like OD or other natural causes. It's sad but that doesn't make it suspicious. Not a bad place to die...

Definitely "not a bad place to die." As a child we used to picnic at a lovely beach south of Barcelona. Generalisimo Francos' Guardia Civil used to execute people there, "so that they could see what a beautiful world they were leaving." Really twisted.

Just another Tuesday in your beautiful town. How many more bodies, fires, ODs, thefts, assaults, and destroyed parks do we need to see? I'm sure there was a tourist or two there today who has a memorable SB experience.

At least more folks seem to be rejecting the framing of this problem as as a choice between compassion and cruelty... as if what we're doing now is helping anyone. Yes, you can have compassionate service programs for folks who will/can accept help, and strictly enforce rules for the safety of all at the same time. In fact, you need to for the programs to have any chance of working.

TP, why you say: “destroyed parks”? I was just reading today how great they’re getting w/tents & free lemonade & hot dogs. Or the way the city is “Fix’n” Ortega Park? But, as for this post I can only offer condolences to the “decedent”…

RIP for the person found on the beach.
Regarding Ortega Park, it is a beautiful park just the way it is but a few minor improvements would be great. The city doesn't need to spend millions on a major overhaul. A nice community pool that everyone could use would be great but we don't need a competition pool. We have cleaned up the park & there are less homeless and drug deals going down. More kids playing & the calls for service to PD have gone down.
