Blue Whale, Orange Sky

Source: John Wiley

Five days brought contrasts, starting with spotting this blue whale. We’ve hoped to see one for years, and pure luck let me notice it 6,000 feet below, swimming to Santa Cruz as we flew to SBA. At extreme zoom I snapped it surfacing. By the time we turned and descended, I snapped it descending to feed. Not very good pictures compared with the NOAA one on wiki, but a dream come true and inspiration to try again for me.

Yesterday’s orange cloud over the Whittier Fire colored the light as an opposing sea breeze cloaked the Hope Ranch hills in fog.
