Bird I.D.

By an edhat reader
I went on a hike up Rattle Snake Trail yesterday and came across this bird. Does anyone know what it is? I've never seen one like this before and it was fearless. It could have cared less that the group of people I was with were watching or taking photos of it, all it was interested in was peeking under rocks for dinner.

Dec 04, 2017 09:30 PMI heard one yesterday while hiking up the backside of Gibraltar ( started at Coldspring to Forbush Flats, east on the Gibraltar trail to the quicksilver mine, then to the dam before heading back up to ECC). Also heard one recently in Mission Canyon while hiking up to Arlington Peak. Their series of high to low notes is very pleasant and distinct. I hear them a lot in Southern Utah too such as in the scenic Grand Staircase Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments - sorry, had to get that in after Trump's selfish and short-sighted announcement today.

Dec 04, 2017 11:46 PMBlackout Info - V.County Fire - I don't see anything about the massive regional power outage and the Santa Paula fire here, so I've posted some info and links on SBitZ.NET including one to the SCE outage site where they're estimating 1-5am restoration.

Dec 04, 2017 03:52 PMA canyon wren hangs out in the oak grove I live in. Incredible singing in the spring and summer, a lot of low chirring this time of year. It comes into the house every few days and polices the ceiling corners and window edges for bugs and spiders. I had to catch and throw him out a few times, it knows its way around now. Fearless hardly describes the bird, he won't hop on a proffered finger but will hold a conversation at arm's length.

Dec 04, 2017 07:42 PMHow cool! I'd love to have a little bird come in and police my house for spiders and bugs (as long as the bird could navigate safely).

Dec 04, 2017 01:39 PMNice pic! You often hear its call more often than you see the bird itself. The call is a series of descending notes.
