Ditto my comment on the distracted driver who rear-ended a parked delivery van on State yesterday. It may not have been the case, but odds-on the driver was texting a BFF or making arrangements. As to bikers who don't obey the rules and drivers who don't 'see' anything but vehicles, both are dangerous, but vehicle weight trumps right-of-way for less damage.

Cyclists need to watch out when they ride in traffic. Too many riders think drivers are watching out for them. FLASH: Cyclists always lose vs vehicles! I wish that cyclists paid more attention so fewer of them would be hit and hurt. Drivers will be drivers, which I always keep in mind when riding my bike. I also stay off De la Vina and Santa Barbara....and NEVER take up a whole lane.

No one is justifying anything, where did you get that from? Just commenting in general that many, if not most, cyclists tend be extremely careless when riding around cars and saying, again in GENERAL, they should try to not be ride so carelessly. Does that make more sense?

Seriously are you guys justifying a cyclist being hit by a car? I agree that people should ALL be safer but we don't know the circumstances do we? Maybe you actually do, maybe the bike rider veered in front of a car without warning... maybe not. Either way, you guys have issues if this is how you really feel!

Yes, "drivers will be drivers," but cyclists need to do more than just pay attention, they need to obey the law. Blowing through stop signs, riding 2+ abreast outside of the designated bike lanes, swerving into traffic with that "invincible" attitude thinking cars will just move for them like Moses parting the Red Sea, etc etc... Cyclists please, please start making an effort to follow the rules of the road and then we'll be happy to "share" it with you!
