Has there been an increase in bear sightings lately? I feel like I've been seeing more warnings on Nextdoor and the news. Below was a recent one:

Bear Sighting Increase?

Over the years many people have asked us "Why don't you keep/have chickens?" Our standard reply:
"Because chickens are a prey species." Bears gotta eat. With this drought, expect more and more sightings of many species of wildlife: predator and prey. On our property we put out water, but make sure never to let our animals outside, unattended, at night.

Due to the lack of water in the back country and abundance of bite-size food and water in the front country, I would not be surprised if there is an increase in bear activity, particularly on the wilderness fringe. I just hope people act accordingly and remove the attractive nuisances of backyard chickens, pet food bowls, etc, instead of punishing the poor bears.

Keeping chickens in bear country? Not a problem; just build a bear cage, only smaller.

It's not unlikely you're seeing the same report from different outlets giving you the impression (feeling) there's more sightings than there actually are.

not an increase per say. just that time of year again. we live in the wilderness to urban interface. like really live in it. so wild animal sightings are normal.

YES, we live by wildlife. Get used to it, it's nothing new. Learn how to coexist with wildlife and not fear it. Love our wild neighbors. Be kind to ALL animals.

It is unfortunate that these beautiful creatures are often "dispatched" because humans leave food, prey, and garbage out. Happened just last week to griz in Montana after the bear killed a camper who had food/snacks in her tent. Do not be snacking in your tent in bear country people...how many times do we have to tell you before you "get it." So sad.
