Is there any news on the Beachside ever reopening or a new restaurant coming soon?

Something about grill and bath house in the same title is unappetizing.

The "poor service & food" may happen for the same reason as many beautiful people don't develop other attractive qualities for when physical attraction fades, as it inevitably does. (I'm guessing, but maybe the same applies to being "filthy rich" or a celebrity, but that doesn't go away no matter what.)

Maybe the rent is too high.
If rent is high, you've either got to turn tables over fast (hard to do on the beach), charge higher prices, or you've got to cut food costs.
I think Moby Dicks is the longest running beach area concessionaire and has the best location, average food.
The restaurant out on Hendry's is second in atmosphere, food is kinda OK. The worst location is the one on West Beach and the rent should be the lowest

Creekmoe sounds as though Los Angeles or Orange Counties would be a more comfortable home. Or perhaps the Florida coast!

We decided to try the Boathouse after a long absence because food was pretty lousy. We noticed that during the Covid shut-down they reworked their menu. Went last Tuesday and it was fantastic! 45 minute though for outdoor patio but we got there at noon- bad timing but totally worth the wait!

i figure that there was a problem with toilets polluting the surf?
and the site just needs some Taco Trucks to service the diners.

and Goleta needs to build a hotel there - one with a bar and a restaurant
or two.

Any restaurant with a full bar license, not just a beer and wine license will always be a popular draw for those seeking this level of liquid refreshments. Beachside was a very pleasant venue, clam chowder was good, and staff was alway friendly. And catered to a lot of "ladies who lunch".

I am friends with former bar manager Mark. The county is doing some necessary building maintenance and will be soon taking applications from prospective tenants. There are several people waiting to apply. There will definitely be another restaurant there eventually. Prices will no doubt be higher as the county will be charging the next tenant a higher percentage of the sales.

A lot of interested people have been doing walk arounds. But the building looks to be very money hungry.

Food prices quality of food and drink were terrible.
I don't know how anyone would have been repetitive customers.

GOML: Us plebians loved the Beachside. Great clam chowder, crab legs, calamari and crab-stuffed halibut. If you didn't like any of that, I can't imagine what you DO like. Maybe you can clue us in? All a matter of taste, I suppose.

Food prices were appropriate. Quality of food and drink was good. Thousands of people were repetitive customers, for decades.
Just because you think you know everything, doesn't mean you do, GOML.

It's a great location, especially for UCSB types with expense accounts, treating out of towners.

I feel bad for the former owners, but the food wasn't great and the service, in the last couple of years, was lamentable.

Brown Pelical on Hendry's was similarly underperforming, but the food at Boathouse, while it could be better, is much better. Something similar will happen at the old Goleta location.

But what the hell is happening at the old East Beach Grill, that's what I want to know?

Interesting perspective. I have found the Boathouse a terrible place, full of touristy gimmicks and expensive choices with badly cooked food (generally really overdone fish). The management has always seemed more preoccupied with extracting the biggest and fasted buck. I much preferred Beachside and found their specials generally very nice (I will miss the shrimp kabobs!) and the bar food was fun and fairly priced as well.

Does anyone know when the East Beach Grill will open?

I saw them doing tenant improvements (installing kitchen equipment last week), so presumably it is in the works.

-1724's comment was the last I heard. I think the former owners are out of the business, but maybe the County is marketing the venue to a new operator. I hope so. If so, I hope they are more serious than SB / Airport re the old Elephant Bar.

The business model between the County and SB City ala E Bar are 2 entirely different brain or lack of their brain trusts.
